SOS Ballarò activism and grassroots democracy in Palermo

DON ENZO VOLPE – PALERMO ITALY

The mafia killed Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino but their ideas and their courage continue to live among the citizens of Palermo and Sicily. SOS Ballarò and Don Enzo are an example of this Sicily that has never let itself be chained in the grip of fear. They work in Albergheria, Palermo to keep historic activities such as the Ballarò market alive, to involve young people in healthy activities and keep them away from drugs. Every year they organize a festival of street artists, Ballarò Buskers, to reconquer the neighborhood and invite all the citizen of Palermo to live their beautiful district.
